New York studio WXY Architecture has won a competition to build the Nanhe River Landscape Bridge in Xinjin. This is a historical town in China that has attracted many residents and visitors over the years. Here – in Xinjin, five rivers converge and the city has long been exalted by poets for its natural beauty.
WXY designs helix-shaped pedestrian and cycle bridge creating an iconic structure befitting the city’s role as a cultural destination. The design incorporates twining spans and is inspired by Xinjin’s breathtaking landscape. The bridge evokes the flow of the river it crosses – and like the main path in a great park, the journey across the bridge is an experience unto itself. Construction to this red bridge is due to begin later this year.
